PETERBOROUGH COUNTY-Two drivers are facing impaired charges from two separate single vehicle collisions reported this past weekend.
On Saturday September 12, 2026, at approximately 9:30pm, officers from the Peterborough County OPP were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Douro First Line in Douro-Dummer Township. Information was provided that a side-by-side all terrain vehicle (ATV) had left the roadway striking a fence before coming to rest in the ditch.
Officers were able to locate the alleged driver at their residence a short distance away. While speaking with the driver, officers noted visible injuries and believed them to be under the influence of alcohol. Officers arrested the accused and had Paramedics attend to their injuries at scene. The accused was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment where they provided samples of their breath with readings more than twice the legal limit according to police.
A 47-year-old from Douro-Dummer Township, ON., was arrested and charged with;
• Operation while impaired
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Fail to remain
• Use plate not authorized for vehicle
• Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance
• Fail to report accident
The accused is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 20, 2026.
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
On Sunday September 13, 2026, at approximately 4:45pm, officers from the Peterborough County OPP responded to a call for a reported vehicle that was travelling southbound on Highway 115 when it suddenly went of the road coming to rest in the centre median. Officers arrived on scene and were directed by witnesses to the driver. Police say officers determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. During the investigation it was also determined that the driver was in fact not licensed and was on multiple driving suspensions as well as a Criminal Prohibition Order and a Probation Order. The driver was also in possession of a licence that was not in their name according to police The accused was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing but upon arrival, failed to comply with the demand to provide a sample.
A 59-year-old of Peterborough, ON., was arrested and charged with;
• Operation while prohibited
• Failure or refusal to comply with demand
• Operation while prohibited (four counts)
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
• Fail to comply with Probation Order
• Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner
• Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance
• Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle
• Driving while under suspension
The accused was held for Bail.
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for a further 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
