PETERBOROUGH-Little Lakers Night scored another big win for kids and families, raising more than $19,000 in support of Five Counties Children’s Centre.
Held Thursday, July 16, at the Peterborough Century 21 Lakers home game against the Oakville Rock, the fourth annual Little Lakers Night brought together fans, families, sponsors and community supporters for an evening of lacrosse, family fun and fundraising. The event is an annual collaboration between Five Counties Children’s Centre and the Peterborough Century 21 Lakers, celebrating community, inclusion and the joy of sport.
“What an incredible night for Five Counties kids, Lakers fans and our entire community,” says Scott Pepin, CEO of Five Counties Children’s Centre. “Raising more than $19,000 is a remarkable result, and every dollar will help children and youth access the life-changing treatment services they need. We are deeply grateful to the Peterborough Lakers, our sponsors, volunteers, donors and everyone who came out to make Little Lakers Night such a memorable success.”
The evening featured pre-game festivities, face painting by donation, games, a ‘Pass the Bucket’ fundraiser, ‘Ball Toss for a Cause,’ a silent auction and the debut of the Lakers Jersey Auction, with proceeds supporting Five Counties.
“Little Lakers Night shows what can happen when sport and community come together for a great cause,” says Pete Dalliday, Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships with the Peterborough Century 21 Lakers. “We’re proud to partner with Five Counties and grateful to our fans for embracing this event. The energy in the building, the smiles from families and the funds raised all speak to the positive impact this partnership continues to have.”
The event also shone a spotlight on children and families who have benefited from Five Counties’ services. Many were in attendance cheering on the Lakers, and clients Asher, Colson, Gussie, Mack, Max and Noah enjoyed special behind-the-scenes experiences with the team. The Hyde family, whose three children Elizabeth, Isabelle and Edward, have received services through Five Counties, took part in the ceremonial pre-game ball drop.
“Five Counties has made such a difference for our family, and we are so grateful for the care, support and services our children have received,” says Maureen Hyde. “Being invited to take part in the ceremonial ball drop was such an exciting and meaningful opportunity for our kids. It was a special way to celebrate Five Counties and the impact it has on families like ours.”
The night raised a record-breaking $19,000 to help support children and families across the region. Funds raised from Little Lakers Night will support Five Counties’ Building Abilities for Life campaign, which allows more kids and youth in the region to access life-changing treatment services when they need them.
