Sanitary Sewer Flushing Begins Today In Fenelon Falls

KAWARTHA LAKES-Routine sanitary sewer flushing will begin in Fenelon Falls today, Friday July 24, and is expected to continue for up to two weeks.

The City says work will take place daily from 7am to 7pm. Once work in Fenelon Falls is complete, crews will move to Bobcaygeon to continue the annual sanitary sewer flushing program.

This regular maintenance removes debris and buildup from sanitary sewer pipes. Keeping the sewer system clean helps reduce the risk of sewer backups and protects the wastewater collection system according to the City.

During the work, crews from Sewer Solutions will use pressurized water to clean the sewer pipes through manholes in the roadway. While flushing is taking place in your area, you may notice bubbling or a vacuum effect in your toilets or drains.

Residents are asked to:

  • keep all toilet lids closed
  • cover any floor drains during the flushing process

Once flushing has been completed in your area, refill the plumbing traps in your home by running water in all sinks and floor drains. This helps prevent sewer gases from entering your home.

Routine sanitary sewer flushing is only completed in Bobcaygeon, Coboconk, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay and Omemee, as these are the communities in the City of Kawartha Lakes with municipal wastewater collection systems.
