PETERBOROUGH-A novice driver is facing impaired driving charges after Peterborough County OPP conducted traffic stop for a stop sign related offence.
On Monday April 20, 2026, at approximately 9:00pm, an officer from the Peterborough County OPP detachment was on patrol in Bridgenorth when they observed a vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at an intersection according to police. Police say the officer, while attempting to catch up to the vehicle, observed erratic driving and conducted a traffic stop. The accused was taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further tests.
A 20-year-old from Ennismore was arrested and charged with;
• Operation while impaired
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
• Young driver – B.A.C. above zero
• Disobey stop sign – fail to stop
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on June 2, 2026.
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
