PETERBOROUGH-The Peterborough Police Service would like to make the public aware of a new scam targeting seniors.
Officers are investigating after several similar reports were filed in the last week where local residents in their 70s and 80s were contacted over their landline with the caller ID showing a financial institution. The caller says they are from the financial institution and that the person’s debit and/or credit cards have been compromised and the bank will be sending a representative to their house to pick up the cards along with their PIN and personal information.
To date over, Â $50,000 has been known to be lost by members of the community.
Peterborough Police officers are reminding residents that financial institutions will not send anyone to your house to pick up your cards or personal information.
If you receive such a call and/or request, hang up immediately and call Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x225 or file an online report https://www.peterboroughpolice.com/en/report/online-reporting.aspx.
