First-Ever Blue Ribbon Battle At The Peterborough Petes Game Oct. 22

PETERBOROUGH- The Peterborough Petes will take on the Oshawa Generals at the Peterborough Memorial Centre in the first-ever Blue Ribbon Battle, a special night of hockey dedicated to supporting men and families affected by prostate cancer on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Presented by Prostate Cancer Support Peterborough and Prostate Cancer Foundation Canada (PCFC), the Blue Ribbon Battle is inspired by the Petes’ Pink in the Rink and brings the same community spirit to prostate cancer. Funds raised will support Prostate Cancer Support Peterborough and prostate care in the region.

“Blue Ribbon Battle brings our community together to raise awareness of prostate cancer and show local men and their families that they are not alone,” said Calvin Stillman, Co-chair, Prostate Cancer Support Peterborough. “We’re proud to make a difference right here in Peterborough.”

Game night will include a ceremonial puck drop and a silent auction. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and, along with donations, are available at blueribbonbattle.ca.

One in eight Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Support groups, awareness and research make a real difference for patients and their families. Men are encouraged to talk to their doctor about PSA testing.

“Prostate Cancer Support Peterborough has built something special for local men and their families, and the Blue Ribbon Battle is a chance for the whole community to rally behind it,” said Mark Mahl, Executive Director, Prostate Cancer Foundation Canada. “PCFC is grateful to the Petes for opening the rink and proud to stand alongside the amazing support group in Peterborough.”

Prostate Cancer Support Peterborough is a volunteer organization of prostate cancer patients, survivors and caregivers who support newly diagnosed, current and recurrent patients and their families in the Peterborough area. Learn more at pcspeterborough.ca.
