Two 13-Year-Olds Charged After Stolen Vehicle Rips Up Soccer Field In Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH-Two 13-year-olds are facing charges after an incident Sunday night in Peterborough.

Officers received three calls about a vehicle being driven on a soccer field and the beach at Beavermead Park just after 10:30 pm.  Police say one left a parking lot in the Braidwood Avenue and Jane Street area striking a fence and the second after it struck a concrete wall in the Morphet Avenue and Morrow Street area.  At that time two people were seen fleeing the vehicle. A short time later, officers spotted two suspects matching the description given to police walking in the area and took them into custody.  Police say that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Kingston on Saturday, June 8, 2024 and was also wanted in connection with a traffic complaint in the north end of Oshawa on Sunday evening.

As a result of the investigation into the Peterborough incidents:

A 13-year-old Oshawa male was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence
  • Fail to Remain x2
  • Careless Driving x2
  • Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, June 10, 2024

A 13-year-old Kingston female was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on July 15, 2024.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.
