KAWARTHA LAKES-A suspicious death in Fenelon Falls has now been deemed a homicide and arrest warrant has been issued for murder.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on October 2, 2023, the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the death of a 79-year-old female at a residence on Kanata Trail.
Police are not releasing the name of the deceased at this time.
An arrest warrant has been issued for 48-year-old Stephen Whiteway of Fenelon Township. He is charged with Second Degree Murder, section 235 of the Criminal Code. WHITEWAY is known to frequent the Lindsay area.
The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit continues its investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with assistance from members of the OPP Central Region Crime Unit, City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and OPP Regional Support Team (RST), and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS).
