Peterborough Police Called To Two Crashes Early Sunday Morning, Impaired Driving Charges Laid

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough Police were called to two crashed early Sunday morning downtown.

At approximately 2:30am on February 26, 2023, officers were called to a single-vehicle collision in the George Street and Ware Street area after a car collided with a hydro pole.  Upon arrival, officers said they noticed obvious signs of impairment with the driver.  No one was injured in the collision but the power was knocked out in the area.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

At approximately 4:00am on February 26, 2023, officers received a call from a passerby that a vehicle had struck a pole in the Reid Street and Scott Street area.  Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and noticed obvious signs of impairment with the driver according to police.  The driver was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Careless driving (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Fail to have insurance card (Comprehensive Automobile Insurance Act)

The accused were issued a 90-day automatic license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
