KAWARTHA LAKES-Parks Canada says that there will be intermittent single-lane closures on Kirkfield Road, at Lock 36 near the community of Kirkfield in the City of Kawartha Lakes between Tuesday, February 21 and Friday, February 24, 2023.
The single-lane closure is required to facilitate the placement of a crane as work continues on repairs to the Kirkfield Lift Lock.
On September 3, 2022 passengers of a cruise ship had to be evacuated when the lift lock began leaking water while in the upper chamber. Officials say no one was injured.
Parks Canada later announced the lock would be closed for the foreseeable future due to a mechanical issue. The land around the lock is also closed to the public.

Flaggers will be in place, and the public can expect short delays.
“Parks Canada would like to thank area residents and visitors for their patience during this closure.” said officials in a press release.
