PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough Police are investigating after a security vehicle was flipped and a pedestrian struck in a wild night on city streets.
Police say they are conducting several investigations coinciding with Homecoming & Head of the Trent (HOTR) Regatta over the course of the weekend, including the flipping of a security vehicle on London Street and a pedestrian being struck in the area of George Street and King Street. In addition, there are a number of thefts, mischief and nuisance calls under investigation, which will be followed up on over the next few days according to police.
Anyone with any information or video evidence to share is asked to call the Peterborough Police Service non-emergency line at 705-876-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.stopcrimehere.ca
Trent University says it is deeply concerned to learn of “isolated unsanctioned gatherings” in downtown Peterborough that coincided with the timing of two big events on campus.
“The reckless behaviour that took place downtown over the weekend is completely unacceptable. The University and its security team will be liaising with Peterborough Police Service to identify any students involved in causing damage and harm in the community.” stated the university in a statement released today. “Students involved will be followed up with in accordance with the Trent University Student Charter of Rights and Responsibilities, and the outcomes will be in proportion to the level of impact on our community.”
Police say they had extra officers, including paid duty officers through Trent University, on patrol both Friday and Saturday to help with the anticipated increase in calls for service
