37-year-old male victim still not named, no suspect information made public
PETERBOROUGH-Police held a media availability outside headquarters Monday morning but the public still has few details about exactly what happened when a 37-year-old man was shot dead in the city on Canada Day weekend. One witness, who spoke to Kawartha 411 without giving his name, pointed at 218 Park Street North and said that is where the man was shot on the front yard. That’s near Sherbrooke and very close to both a store and a church.

Police confirmed it happened just after 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, July 2. They have yet to release the victim’s identity. They also have not said if the man was shot inside or outside the residence citing the “integrity of the investigation”.
It is the second fatal shooting on Park St. North this year after a man was shot dead April 21 – just blocks away.
Acting Chief Tim Farquharson confirmed the man was given CPR by officers at the scene before being rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
At the news conference, Farquharson said – in part:
“We continue to search for a suspect or suspects involved. It’s believed that there may be more witnesses. (We understand) the concerns the residents of Peterborough have and the concerns the police service has around the increase in violence, especially over the past six months.”
Farquharson added that Peterborough Police are taking proactive measures to address this latest increase in violence. He said that includes applying for licence plate identification software allowing a plate to be tracked directly from a police vehicle and, as previously announced, 19 strategically placed closed-circuit cameras.
No timeframe for those upgrades was given. Farquharson said more details will be provided in the coming days.
Police say they do not believe this was a random incident and continue to search for suspects.
“The safety of the residents in our community is the number one priority of the Peterborough Police Service and we understand that safety is also a concern in our community. We are working to gather as much information as possible and locate the suspects involved.” said Farquharson “It’s believed that there may be more witnesses that were in the area at the time, and we are thankful no others were injured.”
