KAWARTHA LAKES-Have you ever been on a calorie restricted diet? Or meticulously logged every calorie consumed only to get frustrated and give up?
Well good news! You no longer have to count calories! That’s right-counting calories is an outdated diet regime that has a proven failure rate.
But eating whole, plant foods? That is a lifestyle change we can all reap the benefits of.
The more colours on your plate, the better
We’ve all heard that losing weight or getting healthier is a lifestyle rather than a short term fix. This is absolutely true when it comes to diet.
No one wants to drink protein shakes long term or eat bland chicken breast and broccoli every meal.
Adding more colour to your diet is something we can all do very simply.
It all starts at the grocery store. Every week, try one new fruit and one new vegetable. Try to pick a different colour than last week. Add in plenty of your favourite colourful produce. Find a new plant based recipe each week and buy the ingredients make it. You’ll be surprised at how much fun it can be-try switch things up in the kitchen and you might find some new favourites.
Why Are Colours So Important?
Colourful foods contain an array of beneficial nutrients, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, protein, calcium, fiber, antioxidants and phytonutrients.
Fruits and vegetables are generally void of trans fat, low in saturated fat and have very little to no sodium.
These foods are also lower in calories, therefore helping you manage your weight while keeping you full because of their fibre and water content.
So if you are frustrated that your weight loss efforts have plateaued or you are sick of tracking every calorie that passes your lips- try adding more colourful plant based foods to your diet!
A diet rich in colourful plant foods not only aids in weight loss- it helps to beat chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes, improves athletic performance and has anti aging properties.
So eat the rainbow for your health!
