Local artists Chinese brush painting on display at City Hall

KAWARTHA LAKES-The work of two Kawartha Lakes artists specializing in Chinese brush painting, will be displayed throughout September and October at City Hall. All are invited to visit City Hall at 26 Francis Street in Lindsay to enjoy over 40 beautiful pieces from Richard G. Sauvé and Bruce Young.

According to the City, Richard has travelled the world extensively, including China, and is a practitioner of the Chinese martial art Tai Chi Chuan. His art forms are a natural extension of his passion and experiences and are always unique. Although Bruce does paint with water colour, pen and ink and acrylic, he is primarily known for his Chinese brush painting on rice paper and has developed unconventional methods of presenting his artwork.

“I have been drawn to Chinese art since it is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions whose literary style provides an artistic freedom that poses a unique challenge: results are never repeatable and always a surprise,” says Richard G. Sauvé.

“Within each medium my topics and flavourful styles can vary dramatically from a Gongbi floral on silk to a whimsical acrylic dragon. My definition of art is: that which can be appreciated,” says Bruce Young.

Richard and Bruce are currently members of the Chinese Brush Painting Society in Yorkshire, England where some of their work is shown on the member’s gallery at their website.

The show at City Hall will continue until October 31, 2019. In order to showcase the work of many Kawartha Lakes artists, the artwork at City Hall changes approximately every month.

If you would like your work to be featured, please contact Christine Briggs, Executive Assistant to Mayor and Council at 705-324-9411 extension 1310.
