Missing Peterborough man found driving the wrong way on Highway 400

PETERBOROUGH-A Peterborough man reported missing by his family was located on Highway 400 after multiple reports of a wrong way vehicle travelling on Highway 400.

Police say On November 11th shortly before 6:30 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound OPP responded to multiple calls of a wrong way vehicle travelling northbound in the south bound lanes of Highway 400.

Police stopped the southbound traffic and positioned the cruiser with lights flashing. The tire deflation device was utilized in the open lane. The wrong way vehicle did not stop for the officer and ran over the spike belt device which aided in safely slowing and stopping the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation the driver was a 76 year-old male from Peterborough, Ontario who had been reported as missing by his family was transported to the hospital for medical reasons. No charges were laid.

Police determined that the wrong way vehicle had driven 40 kilometres the wrong way on Highway 400 and the OPP received 29, 9-1-1 calls.

The OPP is reminding the motoring public to be mindful of signage on all highways and roadways to ensure safe and proper usage.
