KAWARTHA LAKES-Ida Lillian de Grassi and her husband Mossom Martin Boyd are posing with their daughter Sheila on a lawnmower in front of the big house. “I’m pretty sure Mossom Martin Boyd wasn’t cutting the grass, one of his men would do that for him, he just sat down on it to have his picture taken. You can see some of the workmen standing behind it.” It was very unusual in Bobcaygeon in the 1890s to have a lawnmower or even to keep a lawn, but the Boyd estates were cared for beautifully. Inside the stone walls, it was a very different world than most Bobcaygeon residents knew.
