Harry Van Oudenaren’s Memories Of Calumet For Bobcaygeon’s 150th Anniversary

KAWARTHA LAKES- “This is a party on the Calumet, which was the Boyd family’s private yacht. The boat had a beautiful dining room inside, and they would take it out to picnics and other trips. There were dishes marked with ‘Calumet’ that (Wille Boyd’s grandson) Herb Orgill had. Bruce Stinson made a scale model of that boat, which he donated to the Boyd Museum. The engines from the boat are beside Peterborough’s museum.” Launched in 1895, the Calumet was 54 feet long and also served as a tug when it wasn’t ferrying the Boyds and their business associates around the lakes. She was a fast steamer, able to reach Buckhorn in 1:45. Willie Boyd sold the Calumet in 1911.
