Woodville Community Mourning The Loss Of Young Hockey Player

KAWARTHAS-The community of Woodville is mourning the loss of a 12 -year-old boy on Thursday night.

“No words could ever be enough to offer my friend , coworker and her family. An incredible mother and human facing an unimaginable tragic loss. Rowen was a reflection of the incredible family he had. May he forever be remembered for all he offered the world in his short 12 years. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.” said Jenna Sweeting on Facebook.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at Lorneville Road and County Rd 46 in Kawartha Lakes for snowmobile accident. 12-year-old Rowen Greening was taken to Ross Memorial Hospital with life-altering injuries but was later pronounced deceased. Police say he was wearing a helmet. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Rowen was a hockey player, most recently playing with the North Durham U12 AA Warriors.

“It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of one of our own.” said the Warriors in its Facebook page. “Our hockey family has lost a beloved player, teammate, and friend. Rowen had a true love for the game — the kind of love you could see every time he stepped on the ice. Whether it was the excitement of game day, the laughter in the dressing room, or the determination he showed for his teammates, hockey was a huge part of who he was. Our entire association and hockey family mourns alongside his family, friends, coaches, and teammates. The loss of someone so young and so loved is something no community is ever prepared for.”
A number of other minor hockey associations voiced their condolences online.
“Today the Brock Minor Hockey Association joins our entire hockey community in mourning the heartbreaking loss of Rowen Greening. Rowen was a valued member of the Wild hockey family and a young man who shared his love of the game with teammates and friends wherever he played. On behalf of the players, coaches, volunteers, and families of BMHA, we extend our deepest condolences to Rowen’s parents, sister, family, teammates, classmates, and all who knew and loved him.” said the Brock Minor Hockey Association.
“The U11 LL team played a game in Woodville this morning. Our team put the number 2 on the backs of their helmets to remember Rowen Greening.” said the Mariposa Lightning.
The Warriors are encouraging the hockey family and community to join them in showing support for Rowens loved ones during this incredibly difficult time by placing two sticks for number 2 at your front door. #2sticksfornumber2
“As a symbol of the hockey community standing together, many are leaving two hockey sticks and a jersey at their front doors to honour #2 — a quiet but powerful reminder that he will always be part of our team.”
