Kawartha ATV Association Supports Emergency Department Expansion With Successful Poker Run

KAWARTHA LAKES-Members of the Kawartha ATV Association (KATVA) had to work extra hard to prepare for their annual Poker Run this year as the ice storm caused major damage to the trees along the trails, which needed to cleared to ensure the trails were safe for the four-wheeling season.

Their hard work paid off with one of their most successful fundraising events to date!

KATVA’s Poker Run on Saturday, June 7 attracted more than 275 participants with 45 volunteers supporting the ride, the silent auction, draws and dinner. Today, KATVA representatives visited the Ross to present their biggest donation since they began supporting equipment and technology needs at Ross Memorial Hospital through their Poker Run in 2017.
“We’re so proud to be able to contribute to such an important and worthwhile cause,” said Rhonda White. “Raising $19,000 this year — and over $84,000 to date — for the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Emergency Department expansion is truly a privilege. It means so much to us as an organization to give back to a project that will benefit the entire community.”
“It’s hard to imagine the work that the KATVA volunteers had to put into the trails to make their event possible this year. We’re thrilled that their efforts resulted in such a successful day,” said Erin Coons, RMH Foundation CEO. “Their commitment to advancing care at Ross Memorial will impact people throughout Kawartha Lakes. By supporting the expansion of the Emergency Department and the creation of a Mental Health Emergency Services Unit, KATVA is somebody’s hero.”
The expansion of Ross Memorial’s Emergency Department also includes a new trauma room with airborne isolation capacity, to enable the provision of trauma care in the safest environment. For more information, visit wearetheross.ca.
