Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Kawartha Lakes And Peterborough

KAWARTHA LAKES-A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.

Officials say conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail.

Damaging wind gusts to 110 km/h, large hail up 4 cm with a risk of a tornado is possible early this afternoon into early evening.

A cold front moving through the area is expected to trigger severe thunderstorms this afternoon. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes.

There isn’t a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
