Police Officers Enter Water To Rescue Driver From Submerged Vehicle

PETERBOROUGH-Officers from the Peterborough County OPP along with EMS and Fire responded to a call for a vehicle that had entered the water.

On Tuesday April 22, 2025, just prior to 12:30am, officers were sent to a call on Wood duck Drive in the township of Otonabee-South Monaghan. A witness called and advised officers that a vehicle had driven off the road at what appeared to be full speed and had gone directly into the water. The caller also advised that they had not seen anyone emerge from the vehicle which was sinking into the water.

Police say officers arrived minutes after the call and after quickly assessing the situation, three officers located a small boat and paddled out to where the taillights were still visible from the submerged vehicle. Officers entered the water, pulled the driver from the vehicle and took her to shore where paramedics and firefighters took over life saving efforts according to police.

The driver, a 45-year-old female from Port Elgin, ON., was transported to a local hospital and later taken to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was later removed from the lake.
