PETERBOROUGH-Officers from Peterborough County OPP have charged the operator of a snowmobile with impaired after receiving a complaint.
Officers were contacted about an individual who had been knocking on the callers door On February 27, 2025, at approximately 3:00am. The occupant of the residence contacted the OPP instead of opening the door and advised they heard a snowmobile start and leave the area.
Officers were in close proximity and responded to the call, attending the area to look for the individual. Officers located a snowmobile with signs of damage to it, with no one in immediate sight. Officers began searching the area for the driver based off a description provided by the caller. The driver was located a short distance away hiding in the bushes. The individual came out and began speaking with the officers at which point they detected signs of impairment according to police.
43-year-old Michael Weir of Keene was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Fail to comply with Release Order (two counts)
· Fail to produce licence
· Fail to produce registration
· Fail to display evidence of permit
· Fail to report – date and location of occurrence
· Fail to report – circumstances of collision
The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days and was held for Bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
