KAWARTHA LAKES-Inspector Tom Hickey signed off for the last time today, retiring after 37 years in policing.
Hickey began his career in 1988 with Durham Regional Police Service. In 1999 he joined the Kawartha Lakes Police Service.(KLPS) (Lindsay Police Service at the time) He began his career as Constable Hickey with Badge #46 and moved through the ranks becoming a Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and Inspector.
“Tom has been a trusted leader at the Kawartha Lakes Police Service since joining in 1999. His unwavering commitment, bravery, and leadership have left an indelible mark on our community.” said KLPS on Facebook. “Tom’s legacy is one of excellence and integrity.”
As Hickey signed off on police radios for the last time he thanked his colleagues.
“i want to thank every single member of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service for always having my back. In particular the communications centre . We couldn’t do our jobs without you. I salute you, I respect you.” said Hickey, his voice cracking.
“Tom, know that as you sign off for the final time you commitment to public safety will not be forgotten, you have made a difference.” said dispatch.
