HALIBURTON-The Haliburton OPP has charged a driver for numerous driving related charges and criminal offences in the Township of Highlands East.
On January 3, 2025, shortly after 4:00 p.m. Haliburton OPP attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a pickup truck that was travelling on County Road 503. Police say the driver fled from police at a high rate of speed and in a dangerous manner. Due to risk of safety to the public, the officer did not continue the pursuit.
Officers located the vehicle which had been involved in a motor vehicle collision, but the driver had left the scene and fled on foot according to police. Officers continued to search the area and located the driver of the motor vehicle who was arrested by officers.
As a result of this investigation, Robert Connors, a 41-year-old from Highlands East Township has been charged with:
·        Flight from Peace Officer
·        Resist Peace Officer
·        Dangerous Operation
·        Fail to Stop for Police
·        Operation While Prohibited
·        Fail to Comply with Prohibition Order
·        Fail to Comply with Probation Order
·        Fail to Report Accident
·        Driving While Under Suspension – 5 Counts
The accused was held for a bail hearing to appear on video before the Ontario Court of Justice.
