PETERBOROUGH-A Selwyn Township man is facing charges after stopping at a RIDE check in Bridgenorth.
On December 5, 2024, just prior to 10:30pm, Peterborough County OPP Officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Ward Street in Bridgenorth. A vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. program and an officer spoke with the driver. After a brief conversation the officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a Fail at which point they were arrested.
57-year-old Paul Gerelus of Selwyn Township, ON., was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on January 7, 2025.
“The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements,” said police.
