Cheer On Our Local Olympic Athletes As They Compete In Paris

KAWARTHA LAKES-Three elite local athletes will be representing Kawartha Lakes as members of Team Canada at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Emma Wright

Emma Wright, born in Lindsay, Ontario, will be competing alongside her Canadian teammates in the Women’s Water Polo event. Wright made her first appearance on the Canadian Women’s Senior national team in 2012 at the age of 16. In 2019, Wright was named a co-captain of the senior national team and helped the team win silver at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games that year. She was also a member of the team that won a silver medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

This is Wright’s second Olympic Games, she competed alongside her sister Claire on the Team Canada Women’s Water Polo team that finished seventh at Tokyo 2020.

  • Wednesday July 31 at 9:35am (EST): Team Canada versus Team China
  • Friday August 2 at 8am (EST): Team Canada versus Team Australia
  • Sunday August 4 at 12:30pm (EST): Team Canada versus Team Netherlands

 

Olivia Apps

Olivia Apps, from Lindsay, Ontario, will be competing alongside her Canadian teammates in the Women’s Rugby Sevens event. Apps made her Sevens debut with Team Canada in Sydney, Australia in 2018. Since then, she’s racked up 133 appearances (ninth all-time for Team Canada), 265 points scored (seventh all-time for Team Canada) and 80 conversions made (second all-time for Team Canada). Apps will be captaining the Team Canada Women’s Sevens team at Paris 2024.

This is Apps’ second Olympic Games, she was on the Team Canada Women’s Rugby Sevens team that finished ninth at Tokyo 2020.

  • Sunday July 28 at 3:30pm (EST): Team Canada versus Team New Zealand
  • Monday July 29 at 10am (EST): Team Canada versus Team China

 

Jill Moffatt

Jill Moffatt, from Bethany, Ontario, will be competing in the Lightweight Women’s Double Sculls rowing event with her teammate Jenny Casson. Moffatt and Casson secured their spot for Paris 2024 when they advanced to the A final at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Their fourth-place finish at that regatta was their best world championship result together. This is Moffatt’s second Olympic Games, she finished twelfth at Tokyo 2020 in the Lightweight Double Sculls event.

Tune in on Sunday July 28 at 5:50am (EST) to watch Moffatt and Casson compete in Heat 3 of their event.
