Charges Laid In Peterborough’s First Homicide Of 2024

PETERBOROUGH-Charges have been laid in Peterborough’s first murder of the year.

37-year-old Geoff Riley of Peterborough has been arrested by Peterborough Police and charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder in connection with the fatal shooting incident on Friday, April 26.

At approximately 5:00am on April 26, 2024, officers were called to a housing complex at 572 Crystal Drive about gunshots being fired.

A 32-year-old Peterborough man was located on the scene with gunshot wounds, and transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre where he was pronounced deceased.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers learned that the suspect had fled the home.

K9 was called in and conducted a track which led officers to the edge of north side of Highway 115.  The Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) was also deployed to help officers on the ground attempt to locate the suspect.

The track did not result in locating the suspect.

Officers then conducted a grid search of the area and issued a notice to two nearby schools that there was an ongoing investigation. Hold and secures were lifted about 10:40am after completing the grid search. The suspect was located later in the day.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
