Head River Bridge On Monck Road Rehabilitation To Start April 29, 2024

KAWARTHA LAKES-The City of Kawartha Lakes says it has retained Beton Inc. to undertake the rehabilitation of the Head River Bridge located on Monck Road (CKL Road 45) over the Head River. DM Wills Associates Limited will be assisting the municipality with oversight of the project.

Project Scope:

  • Patching, waterproofing, and paving the existing concrete deck
  • Removing the existing barrier walls on deck and reconstructing them with new code compliant concrete barrier walls
  • Removal and reconstruction of concrete approach slabs
  • Concrete patch repairs to the bridge structure itself
  • Removal and replacement of concrete curb and gutters on both approaches
  • Asphalt paving of the structure and approaches
  • Guide rail improvements on the approaches; including removal of existing systems and installation of a new steel beam guide rail

The construction work is anticipated to start April 29, 2024. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with automated traffic signals for the duration of the rehabilitation. Short traffic stoppages may be required and should be expected during the project.

Please note that one open lane over the bridge will only be 3.35m wide, which is too narrow for large trucks. Large trucks are asked to follow the detour; advanced warning signs will be placed prior to the start of the bridge work. Normal pick-up trucks, SUVs and cars will not need to use the detour.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 5, 2024. Approximate location of the bridge:
