Annual Kawartha Forest Woodland Expo Returns To Fleming’s Frost Campus

KAWARTHA LAKES-Sharpen your chainsaw skills and learn more about the trees on your own property during the 31st annual Kawartha Forest Woodland Expo on April 6.

This one-day event is hosted by Fleming College and the Ontario Woodlot Association.

The Kawartha Woodland Expo is designed to educate property owners and students about the role of forests big and small on private property.

Registration is $40 per person, and $30 for high school and post-secondary students. Registration fees are waived for the first 50 high school students who sign up.

Visit here to register.

Registration includes attendance in two workshops, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Lunch, coffee and snacks are also included.

These workshops have been designed by the faculty, staff and alumni with Fleming College’s School of Environmental and Natural Resources, with the goal of providing attendants with the resources and skills to maintain small woodlots on their property, all while providing insight into the natural world right on their doorsteps.
Topics cover everything from chainsaw basics and lumber scaling to tree identification, mapping woodlands, helping endangered species and the joy of forest bathing.

A complete list of all workshops can be found here.

There are limited spots in each workshop, and sign-up is done on a first-come, first-served basis. Personal protective equipment is required for workshops. Please bring your own equipment if you can. Equipment will be provided for those unable to do so.

The Expo also includes a silent auction, exhibits and live music. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. Winners of the silent auction and a chainsaw draw will be announced at 3 p.m.
