PETERBOROUGH-A Hastings resident has been charged after damage to a headstone was reported to the Peterborough County OPP.
The Peterborough County OPP received a call on February 29th advising that damage had been done to a headstone purchased for future use. The headstone had been placed at the cemetery and contained the names of the couple as well as the names of family members. Police say one person whose name was on the headstone, did not want to be associated with others on there and attended the cemetery chiselling their name off it. This caused irreparable damage to the headstone which the owners reported to police.
As a result, a 31-year-old from Hastings, ON, was arrested and charged with Mischief over $5,000.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough at a future date.
The accused has not been named in effort to protect the identity of the victims.
