Police Say Crash Caused By Driver Who Was Attempting To Have Sex And Had Been Drinking

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County OPP and emergency crews got more than they bargained for when they responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover on County Road 2 in Asphodel-Norwood Township.

On Sunday February 18, 2024, at approximately 9:00 pm, the Peterborough County OPP received a call regarding a vehicle that had left the roadway rolling over into the ditch on County Road 2. Asphodel Fire & Rescue, Lindsay Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and ORNGE Air also responded to the incident due to the severity of the crash. Both driver and passenger sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital.

Police say the investigation revealed the driver and passenger were attempting sexual intercourse while the vehicle was in motion resulting in the collision. The driver then stated that they saw a deer in the roadway, causing the driver to steer off the road and crash into a tree according to police.  During the conversation with the driver, officers detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath.

As a result of the investigation, the 20-year-old driver was arrested and charged with,

  • Dangerous operation
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C. above zero.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough at a later date.
