KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area.
Officials say another winter storm is expected Friday night into Saturday with heavy snow. Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 25 cm are possible. Strong wind gusts could result in areas of blowing snow on Friday evening to Saturday afternoon.
While the prospects for a winter storm are high, experts say uncertainty exists regarding the exact track of this weather system. The details of the track will greatly affect precipitation type and amounts at any given location. The heaviest snowfall is expected Friday night. Snow in combination with gusty winds will result in areas of blowing snow and greatly reduced visibility. There is also a risk of a short period of freezing rain.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some locations. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
