Elderly Peterborough Man Charged With Attempted Murder

PETERBOROUGH-A 69-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including attempted murder after an incident Saturday evening.

Officers were called to a residence in the Sophia Street and Burnham Street area at approximately 11:05pm on January 6th. Upon arrival, the 70-year-old female victim was being treated by EMS.  Officers were told that she had been attacked by her partner several times and had been choked, verbally threatened, and threatened with a knife before the man fled the residence.  Shortly after, the man was located at his residence in the Reid Street and Parkhill Road area and taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, a 69-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with Attempt to Commit Murder, Uttering threats to cause death, Assault with a Weapon – Spousal and Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle another Person.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on January 7, 2024.
