PETERBOROUGH-The Peterborough Police Service is making the public aware after continued calls have come in about residential doors and garage doors being kicked.
Officials say officers continue to receive calls about these types of incidents including two in the month of December from different parts of the City of Peterborough. In each case, the call is about a group of young people banging on garage doors and/or kicking the front doors of homes and running away. The incidents usually happen later at night or in the early morning hours.
There is a TikTok social media challenge called the door-knock challenge which has been circulating for the past several years. It involves banging on a door with hands or feet and running away as well videotaping it.
“The Service is concerned about this type of activity because it is aggressive and unnerving for unsuspecting homeowners and has led to more extreme situations in other municipalities.” said police in a press release.
Anyone with information about this type of activity is asked to call Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x225 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.stopcrimehere.ca
