KAWARTHA LAKE-Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP investigated two separate single-vehicle collisions this weekend which resulted in the drivers being charged with impaired operation.
On December 1, 2023, at approximately 7:31 pm, officers responded, alongside Kawartha Lakes Fire and EMS, to a motor vehicle collision involving an SUV that flipped on its side while travelling northbound on Heights Road.
Amanda Kinnunen,29 years old of Dunsford was charged with operation while Impaired – blood Alcohol Concentration 80 plus and Fail to Remain.
On December 2, 2023, at approximately 11:38 pm, officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck that had driven off the roadway on Simcoe Street.
Jamey Leger, 55 years old of Port Perry was charged with operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while Impaired – blood Alcohol Concentration 80 plus and driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available.
Both accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. Both motor vehicles were towed and impounded for 7 days. In addition to being charged both drivers received a 90-day licence suspension.
No one sustained serious injuries from either collision.
“City of Kawartha Lakes OPP would also like to remind drivers that the Festive R.I.D.E (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign has begun. This means officers will be out participating in proactive enforcement and education aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.” said police
