13-Year-Old Charged With Auto Theft And Failure To Comply With Release Order After Break-In At Peterborough Business

PETERBOROUGH-A 13-year-old Whitby male is facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:25 am on November 12, 2023, officers were made aware of a break and enter and theft of vehicles from a business in the Lansdowne Street and Spillsbury Drive area.  Officers on general patrol in the area located a male hiding on the business property, however, when approached the male ran. Officers gave chase on foot and caught up to him a short distance away according to police .

As a result of the investigation, a 13-year-old Whitby male was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Break, Enter a place with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The youth is currently bound by a release order with several conditions and had been reported missing in another jurisdiction.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court December 11, 2023.  Peterborough Police turned the male over to police in the other jurisdiction.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Code, the name of a young person cannot be released.
