Police Investigating Fatal Shooting At Pickering Casino

DURHAM REGION-A security guard has died following a shooting at the Pickering Casino Resort.

On Monday, October 9, 2023, at approximately 5:05 a.m., members from West Division responded to reports of an armed person at the Pickering Casino Resort located at 888 Durham Live Avenue in Pickering.  Police arrived on the scene and were directed inside the casino where they located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The casino was evacuated and life-saving measures were performed on the victim according to police.  The victim was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he has since succumbed to his injuries.

Police are reviewing security footage from the casino and are actively looking for multiple suspects who fled the area.

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Michael Ferdinand.

Police are appealing to anyone who was inside the casino at the time of the incident and may have any information to come forward.  Any witnesses with cellphone video or dash-cam footage are also encouraged to come forward and speak with investigators.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact Det. Peacocke of the Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5402.
