PETERBOROUGH-An arrest has been made in the homicide of Jacob Jansen, a 27-year-old Peterborough man.
On Monday, August 14, 2023, at approximately 10:45am, officers from the Investigative Services Division arrested 32-year-old William Weir of Peterborough who has been charged with First Degree Murder.
The accused is being held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing, later today, August 15, 2023.
“The Peterborough Police Service would like to recognize the hard work and many hours our detectives have put into identifying the individual, gathering, and validating the evidence that culminated in the arrest,” says Chief Stuart Betts, Peterborough Police Service. “This arrest was greatly helped by the presence of the CCTV cameras in our downtown core.”
On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, officers received a call for service from the George Street and Charlotte Street area around 11:30 pm.
They arrived to find a male suffering from a stab wound. The male was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre where he succumbed to his injury.
“I would also like to thank the many community members who took the time to review their own videos and provided assistance to us where possible. This type of collaboration, this type of dedication, helped to bring this to a swift conclusion,” Â said Betts.
The family of the victim has been made aware of the arrest.
