Police Provide Update On Incident On Bessie Avenue Near Bobcaygeon On Monday

KAWARTHA LAKES-Police say one person has been arrested following an incident on Bessie Avenue N in the Municipality of Trent Lakes.

Members of the Peterborough County OPP say officers received a call for an unwanted male at a residence in Trent Lakes on August 14, 2023, at approximately 8:45 a.m.

Upon arrival, the male left the residence and attended a second location on Bessie Avenue, where he barricaded himself inside the building according to police.

Members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) descended on the area which police now says was “as a precaution”. During that time, the public was asked to remain away from the area. After a brief period, the male voluntarily exited the building and was taken into custody without incident.

As a result, a 37-year-old male of Trent Lakes, was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering and Criminal Harassment. No name was released. Some police services have notified the public that they will no longer release the names of the accused, however, the OPP has continued to release names. It’s unclear why no name was released in this case.

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough
