KAWARTHA LAKES-The containment area for a fuel spill into Sturgeon Lake near Dunsford is growing and the source remains unknown.
On Thursday March 30, the ministry’s Spills Action Centre received a report of odours within a culvert and discolouration at the culvert’s outfall in Sturgeon Lake. The City of Kawartha Lakes Fire Department had responded and placed spill containment equipment within the lake near the outfall. Officials responded on the 31.

The Ministry of Natural Resources continues to work with the City of Kawartha Lakes to determine the source of the hydrocarbon spill as well as the details surrounding the cause and the amount released. Officials thought they had it contained but it continues to spill into the lake. The smell of fumes this morning is very strong on Hazel Street from McClernon St to Pitts Cove Road.
