$60,000 In Stolen Tools Recovered By Bancroft OPP

KAWARTHA LAKES-Bancroft OPP responded to a break and enter to a residence in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands on March1. Police say a trailer was forcibly entered, and approximately $60,000 worth of construction tools were stolen.

On March 2, 2023, with the assistance of a call to the Bancroft OPP, one of the accused was located and placed under arrest.

Bancroft OPP members, assisted by the Bancroft Crime Unit and the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two people following the execution of a warrant that recovered approximately $60,000 in stolen tools according to police.

On March 3, 2023, Bancroft OPP, Bancroft Crime Unit and CSCU executed a search warrant on Highway 28 South in the Municipality of Highlands East. As a result of this investigation, two individuals were arrested and charged as following.

John Cecil STONE, 37 years old of Bancroft Ontario has been charged Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 and Break, Enter a place with intent to commit indictable offence.

Lorne Michael STRINGER, 44 years old from Bancroft Ontario has been charged with:

·        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 – CC 354(1)(a)

·        Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence – CC 348(1)(a)

·        Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle – CC 320.13(1)

·        Flight from peace officer – CC 320.17 and,

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine – CDSA 4(1)

The accused parties were held pending a Bail Hearing on March 3, 2023 and were remanded into custody by the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

Bancroft OPP is warning Bancroft residence, that leaving an enclosed trailers at a job site location can put you at risk for being the victim of a theft. Consider blocking all the access points and please continue to record your tools, add initials/markings and take pictures of your belongings.
