OPP Officer Killed In The Line Of Duty Near Hagersville

KAWARTHA LAKES-“It is with an extremely heavy heart that I regretfully advise that OPP Provincial Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala was killed today while courageously serving in the line of duty.”  said OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique.

Pierzchala was a 28-year-old rookie and had been a police officer for just over a year.

It happened shortly after 2:30 today on Indian Line west of Hagersville. The officer was taken to hospital by Haldimand EMS with no vital signs and was pronounced decreased. The original call reportedly came in as a vehicle in the ditch. Police say when the officer arrived he was shot.

Two individuals were seen fleeing from the scene. Following a major search of the area two suspects, a male and a female were taken into custody.

“Our hearts are with his loved ones and all OPP members at this tragic time,” said Carrique.

“Our police community is mourning once again. A senseless act of violence has cost the life of a young officer. Our hearts go out to the family and friends”, said the Ontario Association of Chiefs Of Police.

And Kawartha Lakes police Service tweeted “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and colleagues of the OPP officer who was killed in the line of duty today.”
