TS Manufacturing In Lindsay To Expand Production, Add Ten New Jobs

KAWARTHA LAKES-TS Manufacturing in Lindsay is expanding production and adding ten new jobs.

Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, announced economic growth and the creation of good jobs through an investment of over $1.5 million, through the Business Scale Up and Productivity stream, for TS Manufacturing Company in Lindsay on Friday.

“We’ve experienced significant growth over the past few years and this funding allows us to scale-up our production capacity to meet demand for our solutions. We are investing in advanced equipment and expanded infrastructure which will create jobs and allow us to produce the highest quality machinery for the sawmill industry. We are pleased to have the Government of Canada’s support for this project; it is a fantastic way to celebrate our 50th anniversary and look ahead to our future.” said Kris Smith, VP of Manufacturing, TS Manufacturing Company

TS Manufacturing is a Lindsay-based, family-owned ‘one-stop shop’ manufacturer of quality equipment for the forest products industry worldwide. TS Manufacturing designs, manufactures and installs equipment such as conveyers, stackers, and bulk handling systems for high-production lumber manufacturers and sawmills, mines, and pulp and paper mills worldwide.

The company was founded in 1972 and is family owned and operated by owners Ted and Evelyn Smith. Their three sons are also active in the business.

This investment will allow TS Manufacturing to obtain advanced manufacturing equipment to expand production. This will help the company fill a need in the market by offering automated solutions, such as a first-in-the-world Robotic Lumber Sorter, to small- and medium-sized customers that have been traditionally under-served by equipment manufacturers. This project will also boost local supply chain spending, reduce waste in lumber production and strengthen the regional economy in Lindsay and the Kawartha Lakes. This funding will help bolster the success of the manufacturing industry in the Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough regions and create economic growth for years to come.

“When we invest in Canadian manufacturers, like TS Manufacturing, we are directly increasing Canada’s potential and economic growth. This first-of-its-kind innovation fills a gap in the lumber industry, strengthens Canada’s competitive advantage, and drives growth in the local economy – and our Government could not be prouder to be investing in this future together.” stated Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario

TS Manufacturing is a major employer in the region, with more than 100 staff.

Announcment at Pinnquaq

While in Lindsay the feds also paid a visit to Pinnquaq to announce support for economic growth and job creation with an investment of over $1 million, through the Jobs and Growth Fund, for Pinnguaq to adapt its digital literacy training tools to support businesses and underrepresented job-seekers in Indigenous communities in southeastern Ontario.

“The Pinnguaq Association is delighted by the support for this program. It is our honour to be able to co-deliver these opportunities with Indigenous communities and businesses in both settler communities and Indigenous Nations on Treaty 20 and Williams Treaty land.”
explained Ryan Oliver, CEO, the Pinnguaq Association

Through the two-year project, businesses will be supported and Indigenous job-seekers will receive training to strengthen their digital abilities from basic computer skills to digital marketing and communications, as well as website and graphic design to prepare them for employment. Individuals will also participate in internship opportunities, job placements and targeted recruitment activities, gaining on-the-job experience to prepare for future employment. The project is expected to support 60 Indigenous businesses with funding to support up to 120 internships and job placements.

Pinnguaq and its partners are co-designing workshops to support Indigenous businesses with courses featuring digital business tools like e-commerce, accounting and social media marketing to boost consumer awareness, as well as green business practices. Through the project, Pinnguaq is also adapting its digital training tools with the goal to help businesses and employers navigate an increasingly technological world. The program focuses on the regions of Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough, Haliburton and Hastings including Treaty 20 and Williams Treaty Nations.

According to the government Pinnguaq and partners will ensure that 100 percent of the businesses supported through the program will be Indigenous-owned or majority-led. In addition, the internships and job placement component of the program targets youth, women and/or 2SLGBTQI+ individuals.
