Police Investigating After Burnt Human Remains Found In Pickering

DURHAM REGION-Homicide investigators with Durham Regional Police were called out to a rural area after human remains were discovered in a shallow grave in Pickering.

Members of West Division were called to the area of Concession Road 8 and Sideline 20 after a citizen located burnt human remains in a shallow grave on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Forensic Investigators were called to assist and are working with the Office of the Chief Coroner and a Forensic Anthropologist to recover the remains. A post-portem will be conducted to determine more details about the deceased.

Police are urging any witnesses who may have information or who may have used the off-road/ATV trail in the last three weeks to come forward and speak with investigators.

Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation is asked to call Det. French of the Major Crimes – Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520. ext.5421.

Anonymous information can be sent to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
