Drugs And Firearms Seized After Dispute In Lindsay

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Lakes Police Service seized drugs and firearms after being called to a dispute in Lindsay on Thursday night.

Just before 8pm, officers were called to Kirkconnell Rd in Lindsay for a dispute taking place in a motor vehicle. During the investigation officers allegedly located marihuana within reach of the driver. Police say officers also located  23.9g of marihuana, 103g of methamphetamine, drug weighing equipment, a loaded handgun and a Conducted Energy Weapon in the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, 20yr old Niveya Barrett of Oshawa was arrested and charged with:

  • Have Care or Control of Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of Loaded or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Transport Firearm or Ammunition in a careless manor
  • Occupant of a Motor Vehicle knowing there was a Firearm
  • Occupant of a Motor Vehicle knowing there was Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
  • Possession of Schedule 2 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

She was held in custody and will appear in bail court on August 5, 2022.

According to police a second suspect fled the scene prior to the drugs and weapons being located. The K-9 unit from the Peterborough Police Service was called in to assist. Numerous areas were searched as Police followed up on tips from the public but the suspect was not located.

At this time there is no known risk to public safety and Police are still seeking to identify the other person involved. Residents are asked to contact the Kawartha Lakes Police Service if they have any information or if they have any footage on home security or doorbell cameras that may assist at 705-324-5252
