Fire Rips Through Building Under Construction At Buddhist Temple In Bethany

KAWARTHA LAKES-A number of trucks responded to a fire at the Wutai Shan Buddhist Temple on Ski Hill Road in Bethany this afternoon.

Neighbours say they first saw the smoke at around 2 pm this afternoon. City of Kawartha Lakes Fire Chief, Terry Jones, says a temple under construction burned. The aerial pumper from Lindsay was brought in to get the blaze under control. Four crews from the City responded along with a number of crews from Cavan Monaghan.

No one was injured. There’s no estimate on damages at this time. Jones says no cause has been determined but they have not ruled out lightning. Neighbours say there was heavy lightning in the area when the fire broke out.
