KAWARTHA LAKES-A woman who lives in the City of Kawartha Lakes is heartbroken, concerned and frustrated that no arrest has been made almost six months after her ex-husband was shot and killed outside a Boston Pizza in Scarborough.
Tracy MacDonald said she is still mourning the death of Craig MacDonald who was gunned down in a parking lot in the Cinemart Drive and Milner Avenue area shortly before midnight on October 13 of last year.
Police arrived to find MacDonald in the parking lot with at least one gunshot wound. He was rushed to hospital where he was eventually pronounced dead. Within days police had issued a Canada-wide warrant for Abilaziz Mohamed, 32, of Toronto. He is wanted for first-degree murder. According to reports, MacDonald was shot in the parking lot after some sort of an altercation with another patron inside the restaurant where words were exchanged. MacDonald had gone to Boston Pizza with friends and family to watch a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game.
MacDonald, who has five children, two stepchildren and a granddaughter, has been described as a hard-working man who had been employed for the past 25 years with Providence Health, most recently as manager of maintenance and plant services. He was 43-years old when his life was cut down.
MacDonald’s ex-wife Tracy MacDonald was married to Craig for some 15 years. They were separated at the time of the shooting. Both are originally from Scarborough which is where they met. She added that Craig did not know the suspect before the shooting.
“A good man, a family man was taken and this guy is still walking around. He is free and we are not. Craig’s gone. His kids don’t have their dad and this person is walking around like he doesn’t have to be accountable for what he did,” Tracy said. “I want people to know there is a murderer walking among us. He could be doing this to other people and other people’s families. An unsolved murder is something you hear about but you never think it’s going to happen to you. This idiot took away Craig’s chance of walking his daughter down the aisle. He can’t have a drink with his son on a patio.”

Tracy said there were about 300 people at Craig’s funeral and she wants people who didn’t know him to understand he was the kind of guy that would do anything to help people.
“He was so well-known and so well-loved. I just can’t understand why there hasn’t been an arrest made. I have heard no follow-up from police and Craig’s fiance, a lovely woman, is also not being kept in the loop. Craig’s mom hasn’t heard much about the case either,” MacDonald said. “We keep thinking that maybe this is a bigger thing. Maybe this guy is involved in things that police kind of have to tippy-toe around. I do believe they want to get him but the family has not received any closure without an arrest. He should turn himself in. We believe people are helping to hide him from police. We have heard that he is still around the Toronto area.”
Kawartha 411 News reached out to Detective Sergeant Christopher Ruhl, the lead investigator with the Toronto Police Homicide Squad for an update on the investigation.
“We are still actively looking for Abilaziz Mohamed. As far as sightings, we have received information of sightings and have followed up accordingly with negative results to date. Unfortunately, Mohamed remains outstanding at this time,” Ruhl stated in an email.
All of Craig’s kids have had to go into therapy to deal with the trauma of the loss of their father according to Tracy.
She added the murder was cold and calculated.
“This guy waited in his car for Craig to come out of the restaurant. He fired several shots and could have hit his fiancee too. Now she has to live with the memory of the man she loved being gunned down right in front of her,” she said. “I need people to know that Craig was a good person and he did not deserve any of this. I don’t want this guy to live his life free, enjoying all the things about life that he took away from Craig.”
Tracy said she does not believe the shooting was racially motivated, noting Craig’s fiance is a woman of colour.
“This guy has an ego. He was brazen. Everyone was wearing their masks due to COVID at the time but this guy wasn’t. He didn’t seem to be at all worried about people knowing he was the one who did this,” Tracy said. “There was some talk that the altercation was over the game itself but I wasn’t there so I don’t know about that.”
The suspect, 32-year-old Abilaziz Mohamed of Toronto, is described as 5’10”, 190lbs, stocky build, with black hair, brown eyes, and has a full beard with a mustache.
He is believed to be armed and dangerous. If located, do not approach and call 9-1-1 immediately.
