KAWARTHA LAKES-Investigators with Durham Regional Police have made arrests in two animal abuse cases in North Clarington.
Police say on October 3, Clarington Animal Services located a stray dog near Concession Road 10 and Mosport Road in Bowmanville. The dog described as a Pitbull Terrier mix was extremely emaciated and taken to a veterinary office in Newcastle. The dog passed away several days later due to health conditions according to police.
On October 13, 2020 around midnight, a citizen located a female Pitbull Terrier mix dog which was black and white in color. The dog was located in extremely poor health near Concession Road 9 and Enfield Road in Clarington according to police. The dog was taken to a local Veterinary clinic to get medical attention.
Although very similar in nature, both investigations are separate and investigators with the assistance of the Provincial Animal Welfare Services arrested and charged two individuals according to police.
The surviving puppy, named Minnie is currently recovering in a foster home and is in good health.
Police arrested and charged a 28-year-old female of Oshawa and a 34-year-old female from Whitby with: Owner Having Custody Abandon Animal; Owner Permit Unnecessary Suffering to an Animal; Cause Distress; Standards of Care and Administrative Requirements for Animals x2. No names were released.
