Victim identified in boating accident on White Lake near Peterborough.

KAWARTHA LAKES-73 year oldĀ Marian Wejman of Peterborough has been identified as the deceased in a boating accident on White Lake near Peterborough.

Peterborough County Detachment OPP and emergency crews were called to assist at a boat accident on White Lake near Patterson Road at approximately 12:00pm on November 6, 2020.

A canoe with two occupants on board capsized while fishing on White Lake according to police. It is not known the length of time that the occupants were in the water before being discovered by a member of the public. Two males were transported to shore by members of the Douro-Dummer Fire Department and taken to an area hospital by Peterborough County Paramedics. One male was pronounced deceased at hospital. The second male is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The cause of this accident remains under investigation.

Peterborough County OPP wishes to remind area boaters to utilize proper safety equipment and to wear approved lifejackets.
