Peterborough County OPP charge three people with impaired driving over the weekend

KAWARTHA LAKES-The Peterborough County OPP charged three people with impaired driving over the weekend.

Officers stopped a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act offence on Television Road at approximately 10:30pm on Friday, July 31, 2020. Police say the driver was found to be under the influence of drugs. A large quantity of cannabis was also located in the vehicle according to police.

36 year old Daniel Therault of Oshawa, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Possession of over 30g dried cannabis (or equivalent) in a public place
  • Fail to use lower beam-following
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance-opioid

Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 7 at approximately 7:30pm on Saturday, August 1, 2020. The uninjured driver was found to under the influence of alcohol according to police.

25 year old Eva Bennett-Guenette of Barrie, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration – 80 plus
  • Careless driving
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

Police responded to a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver on Highway 115 at approximately 8:45pm on Saturday, August 1, 2020. The driver was found to under the influence of alcohol according to police.

29 year old Rakhulan Rasiah ASIAH of Scarborough, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration – 80 plus

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
